Tied to
Tradition: The Golf Captain’s Bow Tie and Past Captain Golfer Bow Tie
The bow tie, a refined
symbol of elegance and distinction, has long been associated with leadership
and tradition. Its origins date back to the knotted cravat, worn by European
aristocrats, evolving into a more practical design that allowed gentlemen to
move with ease while maintaining their sophisticated style.
By the late 19th century,
bow ties had found their place in formalwear—the thistle and batwing styles
became commonplace, with black
bow ties reserved for dinner jackets and white bow ties for
evening tails. Though traditionally worn for formal occasions, bow ties have
seen a resurgence in
everyday fashion, embraced by those who appreciate their
timeless appeal.
